Thanks and thank you for your encouragement. This is all very interesting especially your answer to your own question.

I don't think that information and design is mutually exclusive or that there is a competition between them. In fact quite the opposite. The ISS do have a cupola, Dragon has windows and SpaceX suits were deliberately designed to look cool because great design inspires us. This approach is true for many other companies, services and products as well.

I think that information (or more broadly function) and design should go hand in hand, neither is more important than the other. Wikipedia has amazing content but flowing text from edge to edge is a terrible design. And there are fancy websites that look cool but are quite shallow. I wouldn't trade one for the other.

What I see is that achieving good desing on the web is quite difficult. We have graphic designers who put all of their effort into creating amazing mockups, prototypes but then web developers struggle to reproduce them with HTML and CSS which causes friction between the parties. One way to solve this is to say that function is more important than form, fuck the design, but designers will never swallow this. And nobody should because this is a fault of HTML and CSS and not the inability or unwillingness of web developers. The frustration comes not from graphic designers but from the fact that HTML and CSS is badly designed and we should change this instead.

But what do you think? What causes you the most frustration?
